Third VP in India’s history to step down before term ends

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday resigned from his post, citing health concerns and medical advice. In a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, he stated that he is stepping down with immediate effect to prioritize his well-being.
His resignation was submitted under Article 67(a) of the Constitution, making him the third Vice President in Indian history to resign mid-term.
Previously, V. V. Giri resigned in 1969 to contest the presidential election, and Bhairon Singh Shekhawat stepped down in 2007 after losing the presidential race to Pratibha Patil.
Dhankhar expressed gratitude to the President, Prime Minister, and Parliament for their support and reflected positively onhis tenure.
