Dhanbad | To eliminate filaria from the district, the Dhanbad administration will conduct a Mass Drug Administration (MDA) campaign from February 10 to February 25, 2026. Under the programme, 4,583 drug administrators at 2,262 booths will ensure that anti-filarial medicines are administered to more than 2.6 million people in their presence. Those who miss the booth distribution will be covered through door-to-door visits from February 11 to 25.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Aditya Ranjan reviewed the preparedness with the health department and directed that attendance of all 435 supervisors be monitored through video calls from the control room to ensure effective implementation. He stressed that no household or individual should be left out during the campaign.
Civil Surgeon Dr Alok Vishwakarma said filaria is the second leading cause of disability in the country, but can be prevented through annual doses of DEC and Albendazole. Medicines will be administered at all CHCs, PHCs, health sub-centres, Sadar Hospital, Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital, and Dhanbad Railway Station.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to citizens to take the medicines and support the mission to make Dhanbad filaria-free.
