Dhanbad: Fake WhatsApp account created in the name of the Deputy Commissioner, administration alerts the public.
A new case of cyber fraud has come to light in Dhanbad district, where a fake WhatsApp account has been created using the name and profile photo of the District Commissioner and District Magistrate, Mr. Aditya Ranjan. It is suspected that this account is being operated by a cybercriminal based in Laos, Southeast Asia.
As per the information received, the fake account has been used to send messages to several administrative officials and common citizens in an attempt to commit fraud. Although no confirmed cases of money extortion have been reported so far, the administration has taken the matter seriously and initiated action, considering it a major cybercrime.
Deputy Commissioner's Appeal: Stay Alert, Don’t Trust Unknown Sources
Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan has appealed to the public to remain alert. He advised that if anyone receives a message, link, or request for money from an unknown number, they should not trust it under any circumstances. Such suspicious numbers should be immediately blocked and reported to the respective social media platforms.
Police Informed, Action to Be Taken Soon
The matter has been reported to the concerned police department, and the Deputy Commissioner has assured that strict action will be taken against the culprits. He also stated that such acts aim to mislead both the public and the administration, and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
