New Delhi, August 20, 2025: The race for India’s next Vice President formally began on Wednesday as C.P. Radhakrishnan, the NDA’s official nominee and the Governor of Maharashtra, filed his nomination papers at Parliament House. The filing was marked by the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who acted as the chief proposer on the first set of documents.
Accompanying the Prime Minister were several senior NDA leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP President J.P. Nadda, underscoring the coalition’s unanimous support for Radhakrishnan.
During the occasion, Prime Minister Modi lauded Radhakrishnan’s integrity and simplicity, remarking that he is “a leader deeply interested in sports, yet one who does not play games in politics.”
