In a fresh incident of maritime boundary conflict, the Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 14 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
According to official sources, 10 fishermen were detained near Karpitti while fishing in Sri Lankan waters. They were later taken to the Venbuzha Fishermen Port for further investigation.
In a separate incident, four more fishermen from Thirupalaikudi, who had ventured into the sea on a country boat, were apprehended near the controversial Katchatheevu island.
This latest arrest highlights the recurring tensions between Indian fishermen and the Sri Lankan Navy over maritime border violations. The issue has long been a point of diplomatic concern between the two neighboring nations.
Local fishing unions have urged the Indian government to take immediate diplomatic steps to ensure the safe and swift release of the arrested fishermen.
