In a landmark event for the city of Dhanbad, Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu attended the 45th Convocation Ceremony of IIT (ISM) as the Chief Guest, making the day truly historic for the region.
President Murmu arrived at Barwadda Airport via Indian Air Force helicopter, where she was warmly received by Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Shri Aditya Ranjan with a floral welcome. Her convoy then proceeded through key city routes—City Centre Chowk, Luby Circular Road, and Randhir Verma Chowk—before reaching the main venue at IIT ISM.
At the campus, the President posed for a group photo with gold medal recipients and visited an exhibition showcasing tribal women’s innovations under the Atal Community Innovation Centre. She took keen interest in the handcrafted products and praised the efforts of the tribal community.
The convocation ceremony witnessed the release of a commemorative postal stamp to mark 100 glorious years of IIT ISM. President Murmu also awarded gold medals to 20 top-performing students, encouraging them in her speech to dedicate their knowledge to public service, contribute to nation-building, embrace sustainability, and become part of India’s historical transformation.
After the conclusion of the program, the President departed from Dhanbad via helicopter. Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan later congratulated the entire district administration team for the flawless execution of the event and expressed gratitude for their hard work, stating,
“It has been an honour and a lifelong memory to host the Hon’ble President of India in our district.”
The event left an indelible mark on Dhanbad, highlighting its educational excellence and cultural richness on the national stage.
