Dhanbad, July 24, 2025 — Under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate Shri Aditya Ranjan, a crucial meeting of the Sponsorship and Foster Care Approval Committee under the Mission Vatsalya scheme was held today at the district collectorate.
During the session, the committee granted approval to 76 applications for financial support under the scheme. The DC emphasized that the sponsorship program aims to prevent the separation of children from their biological families by offering support that helps in their rehabilitation within the family environment. The scheme targets children below 18 years of age whose family income does not exceed ₹72,000 per year.
Under this initiative, an amount of ₹4,000 per month is provided for a maximum duration of three years. All applications received at the District Child Protection Unit were thoroughly reviewed, and approval was given unanimously.
The meeting witnessed participation from the Assistant Director – Social Security, members of the Child Welfare Committee, Non-Institutional Care Protection Officer, Project Manager of Specialized Adoption Agency, and representatives from Missionaries of Charity, Dhanbad.
Eligibility criteria for the scheme include:
Children of single parents, especially widowed mothers
Children orphaned and living with relatives
Child heads of families
Abandoned children under the care of grandparents or relatives
Children with incarcerated parents
Children whose parents are terminally ill or helpless
Children used or at risk of use for illegal activities
Children affected by HIV/AIDS
The Mission Vatsalya scheme continues to serve as a vital social protection measure, ensuring vulnerable children receive the care and support they need within their own communities.
